St. Patty’s Day in Springfield

It’s St. Patrick’s Day Weekend and there is sooooo much to do here in the Ozarks. The weather is set to be fantastic so get your green on and try out some these fun family activities.

Start off your weekend right with trying out the Duplins Pass Shamrock 5k run.

After that grab a quick shower and head on out to Downtown Springfield for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Event Time: Noon-5pm

Location: Park Central Square & Commercial Street

Noon: Food booths & vendors open at the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge and Park Central Square. – – 12:30: Irish Pet Contest at Jefferson Avenue Footbridge. Pet registration closes at noon on the day of the contest. – – 2:00: Parade begins with Grand Marshal. Parade registration closes at 1:45 pm on the day of the parade. – – 4:00: Parade disbands (South Avenue and Elm St.) – – 4:30: Celebration continues with the Awards Ceremony at Patton Alley Pub visit www.springfieldstpatsparade.org for more information.

 

If outdoor activities are not what you have in mind don’t forget the local Fine Art Show being held at the University Plaza. Local artists will be featured and items can be purchased.

A public art show and sale featuring the work of general and juried member of the Best of Missouri Hands. The Best of Missouri Hands is a statewide non profit organization that supports the fine artists and artisans of the Missouri. Original, handcrafted art, including ceramics, painting, glass, wearable art and more will be on display and available for purchase. All sales benefit the artists.www.bestofmissourihands.org

Or another option would be to visit the 35th Annual Model Train and Swamp Meet at Remington’s off Republic Rd.

Event Time: 9am to 3 pm

Admission: Adults – $7, Children under 12 free with paying adult. A portion of the admission goes to Crossline

Meet some of the top model train manufacturers, how to clinics, photo/model contest, a large array of display layouts featuring a variety of scales, door prizes, food/refreshments throughout the show. Kids can ride the Kiddie Train, test their skills operating a train on a virtual railroad, take the throttle of an OMRA train, earn a Whistle Blowers certificate and compete in a track laying contest in three age divisions. Table rental $25 each including lunch. Bottomless coffee all show for $1. Admission $7 for adults. Children under 12 free with paying adult. A portion of the admission goes to Crosslines.
